Wesley House has its first new President and CEO in 22 years and a brand new team. We have a relatively new and growing board of directors. Wesley House is undergoing a rebirth with redefined vision, leadership, and program enhancements. We are looking for Volunteers In Service to America (VISTAs) to provide strategic support in key areas that will increase our ability to serve and impact families. Those include programs, media and branding, and community assessment.
What is VISTA?
VISTA are, Volunteers In Service To America, deployed around the country to support nonprofit organizations through capacity building. The mission of VISTA is to fight poverty. These positions will support incredibly important work! they are a great opportunity for personal and professional development, marketing, communications, fundraising, capacity building, and volunteer and community engagement.
WHCS VISTA Project
Reflect, Revive, Recover! The goal of our project is to enhance access and engagement to resources that will increase economic mobility for immigrants and minorities as a whole.
As a Community Champion VISTA, you will support the Wesley House mission, ‘to help people help themselves’, by assessing the community we serve and programs, elevating media and branding, magnifying resource development and and volunteer engagement.
Responsibilities

Assess current state of the community and WHCS as an organization

Create, disseminate, and publish a survey to determine most pressing community needs

Help sustain and grow all programs and support development of marketing strategies to enhance awareness

Recruit and identify employer partners who will provide meaningful career opportunities for program participants

Organize community events to support resource development, client access to resources, and information sessions.

Cultivate relationships with civic leaders, religious leaders, service providers, local businesses, private citizens, and other potential donors and partners to provide resources for program support.

Establish community presence and share information with the community through technology, word of mouth, and by passing out literature.

Utilize various social media venues to disperse information on a regular basis. Develop a relationship with the local news media; work with them to curate public service announcements, upcoming events, and articles that can elicit family engagement and community support.
