LOUISVILLE, KY – The Gheens Foundation recently awarded $50,000.00 to the Wesley House Community Services (WHCS) capital campaign, “Reflect. Revive. Recover.” WHCS is a human services organization that has been helping people help themselves since 1903. The agency provides critical services to minorities and low income households; including, head start education, school-age programs, and workforce development.

These funds will be used to update the facilities’ dated boiler heating system to modern HVAC heating and cooling controls. Together, with the community, corporate partners, stakeholders, and friends; the campaign goal is to stabilize the building infrastructure and enhance energy efficiency at Wesley House.

“It’s an honor to partner with Wesley House in improving lives and moving people forward.  Wesley House has a long history in our community as a trusted space for families to come together, to thrive and to learn.  We thank them for the critical role they play,” says Kathy Knotts, Grants Officer, The Gheens Foundation.

The capital campaign includes a list of major facilities’ improvements. Some of those are windows, interior and exterior lighting, flooring, audiovisual equipment, and a natural outdoor classroom for young children.

“The truth of the matter is that funding opportunities for facilities or building maintenance-related projects are limited. However, a building with working equipment, adequate temperature, and updated technology proves extremely valuable for serving the public, maximizing the operating budget, and retaining top talent. Space is relative to impact for a number of reasons,” says Patricia Williams, President and CEO, WHCS.
