SPECTRUM ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL $50,000 TO WESLEY HOUSE COMMUNITY SERVICES

Louisville, Kentucky – June 26, 2024 – Spectrum today announced Wesley House Community Services, Inc. has received $50,000 through Spectrum Community Center Assist (SCCA) for the second year in a row, and now the local organization has received more than $140,000 in funding and services from Spectrum. The support comes from the company’s $30 million philanthropic initiative to revitalize local community centers and invest in job training programs in underserved rural and urban neighborhoods where Spectrum operates.

Spectrum presented the $50,000 check at Wesley House’s recent Workforce Development Graduation.

Since the start of the partnership in 2023, Wesley House has helped 41 people earn credentials and 39 people earn jobs.

Wesley House Community Services, Inc. is a family services community center along the Preston corridor providing early childhood, school-age and adult programs while proactively advocating for policy and systemic change that propels equity for Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC).

“The long-term partnership we are creating with Wesley House Community Services will make a real difference in the lives of local residents by giving them the skills, tools and updated facilities they need to improve their economic situation,” said Rahman Khan, Group Vice President, Community Impact for Charter Communications, which operates the Spectrum brand of connectivity services. “Already thousands of people around the country have participated in SCCA in the neighborhoods we serve, and we look forward to working with Wesley House to provide essential job training in a safe and revitalized space.”

Wesley House Community Services will use the grant to purchase new Chromebooks to increase the number of individuals served, educational licenses, and software and hardware diagnostic tools to expand its information technology (IT) curriculum.

“For 120 years, Wesley House has played a crucial role in supporting those most in need within the Louisville community,” said Mendell Grinter, President and CEO of Wesley House Community Services, Inc. “The grant from Spectrum will provide the educational and technical resources essential for Louisville residents to find gainful employment.”

Spectrum launched Spectrum Community Center Assist in 2021 and will invest $30 million to benefit 100 community centers and job training programs in underserved areas across the company’s 41-state footprint. At each location, Spectrum invests in the community center’s job training efforts with cash grants and in-kind contributions, improves physical classroom spaces, sponsors rebuilding events with volunteers to repair and enhance the physical buildings, and provides new equipment, including laptops and furniture.

“In today’s rapidly changing business environment, initiatives like Wesley House’s Workforce Development Program play an essential role in preparing individuals for new opportunities, improve their skills, or even change professions,” said Councilwoman Betsy Ruhe. “I’d like to thank Wesley House and Spectrum for seeing the value of developing people of all ages so they can reach their true potential.”
